Small Business Heroes – Pure Food Fish Market

Pure Food Fish Market – From “Fish On”, to Fish Online. How a century old business has adapted to changing times.

With over a hundred years in business, Pure Food fish Market has seen and survived the 1918 influenza virus,  numerous economic swings and challenges, to today’s current global pandemic.

In 1911, starting in a single stand, Jack Amon began selling fine seafood from a single stand in Seattle’s world-famous Pike Place Public Market. The Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington, founded in 1907, has a long and storied history as the oldest continually run farmer’s market in the United States.

With four generations passing the torch, Jack Amons’s son Sol worked at the market for over 60 years. Next in line, his grandchildren Isaac and Carlee who continue to run the business today. It is still a single long counter in the Pike Place Market, but the Pure Food Fish Market now sells more seafood than Jack Amon ever dreamed.

The beginning of fast commercial air travel has given people everywhere the chance to enjoy fresh seafood from the Pure Food Fish Market. Tourists and locals alike come to the Pike Place Public Market to buy fresh seafood, but like all of the world, that changed recently with the COVID19 outbreak and social distancing initiatives. Seattle has always been a boom-or-bust town. Originally a  gold-rush outpost with a powerful history of reinvention, and the events of today are no different. Entrepreneurs here have quickly scrambled to find ways to stay afloat, band together, and help their community through this crisis.

Like most retailers, and with a closed market, Pure Food Fish Market was quick to shift their business model. If the community couldn’t come to them, they would go to the community.

While their website freshseafood.com had been well established for online sales and delivery, Pure Food Fish Market quickly moved to include local delivery services for the Seattle area. They continue to provide the highest quality fresh seafood out of the pacific northwest via online sales and local delivery. With a safer distancing option than even the local grocery store, Pure Food continues serving not just direct consumers, but also the local and remote restaurant communities with quality fresh seafood for your delivery and curbside pickup orders. Follow them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/purefoodfishmarket/ for current sales on your favorite fresh fish and a great collection of recipes for your family.
